All the Courtyard’s a stage for new open air season

Ladies and gentlemen, take your seats! The show is soon to start…

Middlesbrough Town Hall Courtyard will come alive this summer as a new Theatre Go-Round season makes a welcome return to the town centre venue.

The stage will be built, lights will be set and actors will warm their voices all in anticipation of the theatre favourite – you.

Yep, there is nothing that actors love more than the audience arriving with excited anticipation!

This summer season you can enjoy two of Shakespeare’s finest comedies, a David Walliams special and a family musical packed with fun.

If you’ve never been before, you’re in for an absolute treat. The sound of Shakespeare and laughter ringing around the square is something else!

The annual open air season is always popular with all members of the family.

The annual open air season is always popular with all members of the family.

The Pantaloons who open the season with The Comedy of Errors are famous for adding their own hilarious spin to the well-known classics. Expect silly slapstick, memorable music and the Bard’s wonderful poetry.

If a family show is more up your street, have a look at Bad Dad by David Walliams. A fast and furious heart-warming adventure about a father and son, navigating their way through car chases and convicts. The recommended age for this show is 7+ and it has a total running time of 2 hours.

A second family delight follows with The Ugly Duckling. This lively musical is filled with live music, puppets and lots of colourful characters. Bring all your friends and family and find out if our duckling discovers true happiness… (spoiler alert: we think he will!).

As the summer starts to wind down, the season ends with The Merry Wives of Windsor. A story of marriage, wealth, jealousy and lies as down-on-his-luck Falstaff tries to restore his fortune by seducing not one but two wealthy wives… “Revenged I will be, as sure as his guts are made of puddings…”

While we’re speaking of food (and drink) the Town Hall bar will be open for drinks and light refreshments. Or how about making it into a true theatre treat and enjoy a bite to eat before or after the show. There’s a host of restaurants to choose from in Middlesbrough town centre and there’s even some outdoor seating to be found to keep it in the al-fresco mood! Be inspired here.

The sunshine is on order* and tickets for all shows are on sale now.

*Please note that a close eye is kept on the forecast. If extreme weather is predicted, the productions move inside to the Town Hall Crypt. The show always goes on!

The Theatre Go-Round Open Air Season is in Middlesbrough Town Hall Courtyard in August. Call 01642 81 51 81 or book online via Middlesbrough Theatre or Middlesbrough Town Hall.
