Middlesbrough Judo Club is ‘Club of the Year’
A Middlesbrough sports club’s commitment to building community spirit in the town has seen it named the best in the country.
Middlesbrough Judo Club was honoured with the ‘Club of the Year’ accolade at the prestigious 2024 British Judo Awards Evening.
The award recognised its outstanding contributions to the sport and its vital role in fostering community spirit in Middlesbrough – a testament to its unwavering commitment to an inclusive judo environment in the town.
Based at the Pallister Park Centre, on the town’s Ormesby Road, Middlesbrough Judo Club has created a space where judoka of all ages and abilities can flourish, from eager beginners to ambitious elite athletes.
The club offers accessible training programmes for all skill levels, inclusive resources for participants with disabilities and a nurturing environment which builds confidence and life skills.
In the past year alone, more than 150 new members have been welcomed into the fold, including many young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Club chiefs say this demonstrates its commitment to accessibility and community engagement.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be named Club of the Year by British Judo,” said Garth Illingworth, head coach.
“This award is a tremendous recognition of our team’s hard work and dedication to creating a positive and inclusive judo experience for everyone.”
