One of Middlesbrough’s independent art spaces, offering four exhibition spaces and studios for local, national, and international artists.
Expect the unexpected and you’re halfway there. There’s always something different to experience for the senses such as pop-up orchestras, virtual exhibitions, and regular artist collaborations.
The space is run by local artists and curators Bobby Benjamin and Stephen Irving with the aim of showcasing the best local, national, and international talent on Teesside.
Pineapple Black is located within an old New Look store in the Hill Street Centre, providing it with a very large and very prominent space from which to be able to run its programme of exhibitions.
Alongside the regular series of exhibitions, Pineapple Black also offers the opportunity for individuals and arts collectives to ‘take over’ the space in-between shows for one-off and pop-up events which have included messy play for children, filming of music videos, a backdrop for student films, comedy and performance nights to name but a few.
You may have seen news that Pineapple Black had closed, but fear not – Bobby and Stephen announced in June, 2024 that they were reopening and continuing to provide an independent art space in the town centre.
