Transporter Bridge

Middlesbrough's iconic landmark is recognised the world over

A symbol of Middlesbrough’s proud industrial heritage, The Transporter Bridge has been a landmark since opening in 1911.

Currently out of action for essential repairs, when travelling it’s the longest working transporter bridge in the world.

When operational the bridge carries a gondola from the Middlesbrough side of the Tees to Port Clarence, or back again, in 90 seconds. The journey gives unique views down the river, which are matched only by the views for miles from its upper walkway.

While you’re down there, take a look at Middlesbrough’s three-sided dock clock and wander through the Middlehaven urban park to see the exciting development work to restore St Hilda’s, the original centre of the town.
