Travel through time and explore life in ancient Egypt in our exciting play area. Dress up and trade at the market bazaar or be brave and venture deep inside the tomb after visit the archaeology camp to share your discoveries!.

Pharaoh headdress family craft
10:30am – 3:30pm
£2 per person
Take part in our family crafts where you can make and decorate your own ancient Egyptian headdress suitable for a pharaoh. Take inspiration from the British Museum mummy mask on display in the museum!

Unearth Egyptians
10:30am – 3:30pm
Free
Get hands on with the museum’s collection team, pick up your archaeologist tools to uncover and identify ancient Egyptian artefacts.

Interactive embalming demonstrations
11am – 12pm & 1pm – 3pm
Free
Drop into our interactive embalming demonstration and get involved pulling out its organs and placing them in canopic jars as we prepare the body for mummification!

Book of the Dead
10am – 4pm
Come and see the Egyptian Book of the Dead from Teesside Archive, a collection of magical spells that would protect people on their long journey to the afterlife

Hieroglyph’s trail
10am – 4pm
£1 per person
The mummy is loose in the museum, and we need your help to decode the hieroglyphs that are hidden across the museum to help find out where he has gone!
